The maximum transmission range, over which 128Kbps of data can be delivered using Orion's iDSL equipment is 4 miles (5KM) on a 26AWG (0.4mm) twisted pair. Increased transmission distances may be attained by use of a higher wire gauge pair. Please refer to the "Distance Table" provided at the end of this brochure for transmission distances that are possible with other wire gauges. The transmission distances may also be doubled using standard (off-the-shelf) ISDN repeaters.

At the ISP site / POP site the ISP / CO side Orion's iDSL Access equipment multiplexes the 15, iDSL links providing 15 leased lines to various customers @ 128Kbps each, to an E1 interface which may be directly connected to the E1, VWIC (channelized E1) card of a Cisco Router. Time-slot selection and management is available to assign the E1 time-slots to the various active iDSL links.

The VCL-30TM, E1 (Common Equipment) consisting of the following components:

• 9" Shelf 3U High (sub-rack)
• Connectorized Backplane (3 U High) and
• 48V DC Input Power Supply Card

The Central Office / ISP Premises interface equipment includes the following cards:

Orion's Central Office / ISP premises iDSL modem card - part number VCL-30-080 (used with the VCL-30 Common Equipment) can be used to deliver data @ 128 Kbps to a customer premises up to a distance of 5 KM., on a ordinary 0.5 mm twister copper pair.

At the customer premises the VCL-30, iDSL DSLAM provides multiple options for customers: (see application diagrams)

1. To connect the remote subscriber on Orion’s iDSL desktop modem. (see customer premise option # 1) - application diagram 1

2. To connect the remote subscriber on Cisco's iDSL router. (see customer premises option # 2) ) -application diagram 2

Our Central Office / ISP Premises iDSL Modem cards - (part # VCL-30-80) is also compatible with the Cisco's 804 iDSL Router and can be used to deliver data @ 64 Kbps / 128 Kbps to the Customer Premises, on 2 wires. The Customer Data Interface is a 10BaseT x 4, on the Cisco's 804 iDSL Router

The above solution delivers 64Kbps / 128Kbps, leased line, upto 5 KM from the VCL-30, to the customer premises on iDSL. Terminates on 10BaseT x 4 ports at customer premises.

Either customer Premises option # 1, or customer premises option # 2 may be ordered, for use with Central Office / ISP Premises iDSL Modem cards - (part # VCL-30-080) depending on the user requirements.
